Costume Contacts - Do NOT use over-the-counter lenses - see a professional!
Costume Contacts can be Scary……… for your eyes!
Websites and beauty supply stores advertise over-the-counter novelty contact lenses as if they were fashion accessories or toys. If you want your Halloween look to include zombie, cat or glow-in-the-dark eyes, get your novelty contact lenses from an eye care professional. Every human eye is individual and there is no such thing as “one size fits all” contact lenses. Before using any contact lenses, an ophthalmologist or optometrist must measure each eye in order to properly fit them to the individual patient. It’s crucial that your lenses fit properly, and your individual prescription can only be determined by an eye exam.
Using any contact lenses obtained without an eye exam can lead to serious eye disorders and eye infections, which can lead to permanent vision loss.

If your novelty lenses are not properly fit, they can scratch the delicate tissue of your eyes, create conditions favorable for nasty bacteria and fungi, or cause blood vessels to grow into the cornea.
“Novelty contact lenses may look great and may be the perfect addition to a costume, but there is a huge potential downside in terms of risk to your eyes. They’re probably more trouble then it’s worth,” says Dr. Simon of North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat.
