LASIK to the Rescue for Atlanta Braves!
Good news for Atlanta Braves fans! The Braves have just announced that their second baseman Dan Uggla is being put on the disabled list so he can have LASIK surgery to correct his astigmatism. The flipside, of course, is that this may spell bad news for Braves’ opponents if Uggla’s results are anything like those leading to the famed post-LASIK hitting performance of San Francisco Giants’ Pablo Sandoval, after he’d had LASIK on only one eye!

Uggla had been diagnosed with astigmatism in Spring Training, but he decided to postpone LASIK surgery because of the amount of time he thought he would miss. But now, in the middle of the worst season of his career, Uggla said he’d finally realized he couldn’t wait any longer to have the procedure.
LASIK Surgery for Uggla
The Braves felt that their 14-game lead in the National League East (as of August 13th) will give them the padding they need to deactivate Uggla. It’s the team’s double hope that Uggla’s vision problem is the cause of the second baseman’s hitting slump (under .200 for most of the season) and that LASIK Surgery will correct the vision problem. With LASIK recovery being short and optimal, the team sees Uggla easily being back in the lineup before the end of the season and in time for the playoffs.
As for Pablo Sandoval? There’s no news of his having LASIK on his other eye, although he had said he was considering doing it after the 2012 season. Well, it may be time for doing more than just considering it. After crowning his stellar 2012 season with the World Series MVP award, Sandoval in 2013 is currently hitting .256, and the Giants are in last place in the National League West.
