Amy Lu, M.D., Ph.D. is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the medical management of diseases of the retina and vitreous. Her clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, uveitis, and screening for retinal drug toxicities.

Dr. Lu completed her undergraduate education at Columbia University and went on to complete her medical school training at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She was part of the M.D./Ph.D. program there and it was during her graduate school studies working with cellular and murine models of retinal development that she developed an interest in ophthalmology.

Dr. Lu continued her training at Penn State, where she completed her internship in Internal Medicine and her residency in Ophthalmology. She then received fellowship training in Medical Retina at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health. During her fellowship training, Dr. Lu was able to gain exposure to a wide range of retinal pathology ranging from routine retinal screening exams to rare inherited multi-system disorders that affect the retina. She also participated in several clinical studies related to macular degeneration, inherited retinal disease, and uveitis.

Dr. Lu is excited to be joining the NCEENT family. She hopes to get to know her patients and work with them to formulate treatment plans that help achieve the best possible outcome for not just the eye, but also for the whole patient.

Dr. Lu grew up in the beautiful British Columbia and looks forward to getting to know the Triangle. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring local trails and farmers markets. She loves spending time with her family and pet cat.
