Eyelid Surgery (blepharoplasty) - North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat
Blepharoplasty overview
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed to improve the appearance or function of the eyelids. Surgery can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both.
With age, excess upper eyelid skin can intrude into vision, making daily activities more difficult. Removal of the excess skin often helps to expand the field of vision and give the eyes a rejuvenated appearance.
Lower eyelid surgery is typically performed to reduce puffiness and wrinkling of the skin.
Eyelid surgery can treat
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
- Puffiness in the eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Does insurance cover eyelid surgery?
Most insurance plans will cover medically necessary eyelid surgery if it interferes with the vision. If insurance does not cover the cost of surgery, the procedure can still be performed for cosmetic reasons, and you may have an out of pocket expense.
