Stuttering

What is "Stuttering?"

Stuttering is a communication disorder involving disruptions in the forward flow of speech. Speech disfluencies are moments when a person who stutters has difficulty “getting his or her words out.” It is estimated that more than 60 million people in the world stutter, including 5% of all children. However, most people who stutter feel alone.

Our goal at NCEENT is to empower children and adults to become effective communicators and overcome the fear of speech. Our therapist work to teach you how to communicate clearly and powerfully, regardless of your fluency, giving you the confidence to speak in any situation.

Treating Stuttering

Treating stuttering is a complicated process that may involve several different components depending upon the person’s individual needs. The parents and child, or the adult, along with the speech-language pathologist, work together to educate themselves and determine how to best reinforce the lessons that are learned in therapy.
Therapy techniques include but are not limited to fluency shaping, fluency modification and cognitive/behavioral therapy.
